ABOUT THE PLAY: This revolutionary romantic comedy is set in Colonial America, ca. 1781. The play begins a few hours after The Battle of Yorktown: a Highlander, fighting as a mercenary for the British Army, is being chased through the streets of Yorktown, Virginia by Minute Men. The mercenary escapes capture by climbing up the side of a house into an open window, only to discover he’s in the bedchamber of the redoubtable Miss Elizabeth Littlebone -- daughter of a Major in the Continental Army and heir to the bold spirit of a new American.
As the sparks fly between the two, true love ignites, but what will Elizabeth’s fiancé -- the hero of the Battle of Yorktown -- have to say about it?
Arms and the Highlander was adapted from George Bernard Shaw’s Arms and the Man by playwright Meredith Bean McMath, and the play premiered in 2006 with Aurora Studio Theatre to rave reviews.
