"From how to be an excellent actor or direct a riveting show, how to produce comedy or add depth to drama, great theatre has to begin with great stories..."
McMath has worked in theatre for over 45 years, learning from talented actors and directors and sharing this knowledge while Managing Director of the former Run Rabbit Run Theatre.
She got her start in theatre as she researched Loudoun County Civil War history while serving on the Board of Directors of the Loudoun Museum. She and fellow Board Member, Joni Lynn Crane, agreed the previously unknown stories needed to be brought to life, and they decided to create a history documentary based on a presentation McMath would give at Oatlands Plantation.
Meredith wrote the script, determined the costumes, prepped the living history performers and gave the talk (part of Oatland's Elizabeth Carter Lecture Series). They then founded the company Run Rabbit Run Productions, Inc. and Joni filmed the presentation. That first documentary, "Having A Ball: Ballroom Costume Equiette and Dance in the Midst of the Rebellion", aired several times on The History Channel in 1996.. Their second work, "Southern Courage: Civil War Women of Loudoun County, Virginia", can be seen here.
Creating those works led her to begin play writing and theatre production in earnest, and she's now a prize-winning playwright, award-winning historian, stage director and speaker.
"One passion kept leading to another. I'm deeply grateful for the talented people I've worked with and for all the opportunities I've been given, but I do wish writers and directors were paid a little more..."
