True stories of women living in a divided Virginia county during the most turbulent time in American history— women, old and young, who dealt with war on their doorstep...  and did much more than survive.

What was on the mind of a plantation mistress or a Confederate housewife? How would a slave woman answer the Union soldier who asked what life was like for her and her children? And why would a young Quaker woman decide to risk her life to publish an underground newspaper for Union soldiers?

What gave these women hope and courage. What changed their perspective?

With monologues taken directly from diaries, letters and other documents, their stories reveal strikingly modern thoughts and feelings THE TRUTH BE TOLD weaves together these women's monologues within a concise overview of Virginia Civil War history in deeply divided Loudoun County — the county often referred to as "the Civil War writ small".

Written by award-winning Historian Meredith Bean McMath, TRUTH BE TOLD is appropriate for viewers age 10 to adult (It was first created as a documentary to support the Virginia Civil War curricula for middle schools and high schools).
